Abstract
Chordoma is a very rare tumor which is considered to originate from ectopic remnant of embryonal notochordal tissue. The tumor is entirely located about both ends of vertebral column, i. e. the sacrococcygeal area (more than 50%) and spheno-occipital area (33-35%); the remainders are nearly always restricted along the vertebra, too. Other unusual sites of chordoma are jaw, maxilla, scapula and buttock.
2 cases of chordomas are reported here. One was the spheno-occipital tumor of 41-year-old male who had complained of dull pain and hypesthesia of left face and nasal obstruction. The other was found within right Gluteus maximus muscle of 61-year-old female who had suffered from pain at right thigh. Gluteus muscle was one of very rare sites of chordoma.
Brief review of the literature was also made.
